Business owner Lena Jill started Sofia’s Creaciones in 2003 at the Fulton Mall in downtown Fresno. What began as a small shop has grown into a vibrant store, packed with many items honoring the Mexican culture. Just about everything in the store is from Mexico. Hand-made traditional outfits, decorations, home decor, dresses, outfits, and more.
Spanish-speaking business owners face many obstacles regarding financial help, such as navigating language barriers and struggling to access bank loans even though California ranks as the fifth-most supportive state for Hispanic-owned businesses.
As Lena struggled to obtain funding for her business, she heard about Access Plus Capital while working with Univision 21 Fresno. She immediately picked up the phone and began with Ernesto Ramirez, Business Development Analyst. Ernest helped Lena with her application and forms, guiding her through the entire process. It wasn’t long after that her loan was approved.
With help from Access Plus Capital, she’s hired full-time employees and growing the volume of items she carries, creating a ripple effect to other small business owners. As her inventory grows, so do her resellers.
At Access Plus Capital, we’re proud to expand our outreach to Latino and Spanish-speaking businesses throughout California. If you or someone you know in the Hispanic community needs help with their business, please let us know. And please be sure to visit Sofia’s Creaciones at the Fulton Mall.
